What are the principles of the ELE Program?
Three principles form the foundation of the program:
• Be a cost-savings option for CPA candidates
• Offer up to 30 credit hours from an accredited university.
• Become scalable for firms and organizations of all sizes and across business and industries.
Can my firm or organization offer the ELE Program to existing staff?
Yes, the program is open to any staff who have a bachelor’s degree (of at least 120 credit hours) and have completed the core accounting courses required for licensure.
Note that the ELE Program does not offer core accounting courses; it expands on a CPA candidates’ knowledge to improve their familiarity on complex business and financial topics.
Is there a cap on the number of CPA candidates that can enroll in the program?
No, there is no cap. We welcome all applicants; there is no limit to the number of individuals who can enroll in the ELE Program and seek to complete the full 150-credit hour requirement.
Does the educational component of the ELE Program also count toward a
CPA candidate’s work experience requirement for licensure?
The education component does not count toward the experience requirement for licensure.
The goal for the ELE Program is for CPA candidates to achieve the 150-credit requirement.
Note: Criteria for qualified experience are determined by each state board of accountancy; CPA candidates should contact their state board for specifications.
What kind of courses will be included in the ELE Program?
The coursework in the ELE Program includes topics based on skills and competencies of early-career accountants. The online courses are offered in an asynchronous format and, once completed, will be listed on a university transcript from Tulane University. The ELE Program does not offer the core accounting courses required for state licensure.
Why doesn’t the program include the core accounting courses?
The ELE Program is meant for students who already have the required accounting courses for CPA licensure. The courses available as part of the program focus on skills that can be useful in any professional setting.
Are program participants required to take all 30 credit hours?
No, CPA candidates can tailor their learning experience to meet their needs. The program is flexible — candidates have the option of taking up to 30 credit hours to help them achieve the 150-hour requirement.
How many courses can a CPA candidate take per semester?
One to two courses (three to six credit hours) per semester is recommended. However, CPA candidates may take more as long as the individual and employer are comfortable with the additional workload.
Will ELE Program participants earn a degree or certificate?
The ELE Program is a non-degree-earning program. Students will receive a transcript with their completed courses that can be submitted in their application for CPA licensure.
How can an individual know if they’ve met the education requirements for licensure?
Each jurisdiction has its own requirements for licensure. CPA candidates should contact their State Board directly with questions about specific licensure requirements.
How could the ELE Program evolve in the future?
Feedback from employers and program participants will help the program expand course offerings and become most effective. As the program grows, it could include more courses and different learning tracks or include accounting bootcamp courses for nontraditional CPA candidates.
